Only a few kilometres from the busy industrial city and port of Newcastle, the lush surroundings give a feeling of peaceful isolation from the cares of the world. One of the main attractions of the course lies in its uniquely Australian character. With its undulating fairways formed from ancient sand dunes, and carved out of a forest of Eucalypts and Angophoras, nearly every hole is a separate entity isolated from the others. The close proximity to the ocean is evident in the on-shore breezes that affect every hole differently, as no two successive fairways run in the same direction.
