Set amongst rolling sand dunes and coastal vegetation adjoining Point Nepean National Park, this links layout rates as not only one of the best on the Mornington Peninsula, but nationwide. Consistently rated in the Top 50 golf courses in Australia, Portsea is highly regarded by professionals and amateurs alike as one of the most enjoyable courses to play.
First designed in 1924 by Jock Young, Portsea was extended to 18 holes in 1965 by Sloan Morpeth and in more recent times Michael Clayton has made a number of design improvements to further take advantage of the natural undulating coastal terrain . Another great feature of the course is the strategic bunkering that challenges the golfer on every hole, often capturing a wayward shot.  
Whilst not a long course by modern standards at a tick under 6000 metres, the prevailing winds from Bass Strait often provide the greatest protection for the course making par a difficult proposition on even some of the shorter holes.
Superbly maintained couch fairways and true and fast greens combined  with well drained soils make Portsea a challenging experiencing for golfers all year round. Portsea often hosts state and national golfing events and its most famous event is undoubtedly the annual Portsea Pro – Am held on 2 January featuring leading professionals and celebrities.
